Vintage Sewing

December 30, 2014

I am looking to get rid of my insanely old fiskars that are dull and gross, not even sure where they came from. I’m looking at the gingher 8″ dressmaker shears and the kai 8″ (non professional series) what is everyones’ opinion?

  1. I’m a big fan of Ginghers. You can send them back any of their scissors for sharpening and repair for a really cheap price – maybe US$8?

  2. I love my Ginghers, but I could be tempted away.

I spent almost the entire day yesterday cutting so I could sew a bunch of garments production style and the part of my hand between the base of my thumb and the bottom of my index finger is KILLING me today. If anyone has figured out a solution to that, let me know, because OUCH.

  3. I bought the Kai 7250 SL (10″ professional shears) a couple of years ago and I love it. The handles are so comfortable; I can’t stand handles in metal. It was a bit of an investment, but one that will last me the next couple of decades.

    I hope! 🙂

  4. That is a hard choice. I am trying to learn to use the rotary cutter better. I use the Olfa brand cutters and cutting boards. I really love the Gingher scissors and I’ve heard excellent things about the Kai scissors as well. The Gingher scissors can be re-sharpened. I’m not sure if the same holds true for the Kai. Thanks, Kathy
