GIVEAWAY: Mrs Depew Vintage

April 30, 2012

It’s giveaway time…huzzah! And if you’re one of those people who never wins anything (hello…come sit over here by me in the bitter corner), you’re going to love this one because there will be not one, not two, but three lucky winners.

Regular readers of our vintage sewing blog will no doubt recognize the name Mrs Depew Vintage. Run by the lovely Anna (who happens to be my go-to source for vintage lingerie questions), Mrs Depew Vintage is on etsy and craftsy.

Up for grabs this time is the PDF pattern download of your choice from Anna’s three latest creations.

Depew1001: 1950s inspired one piece bathing suit pattern

The classic 1950s look of this one piece bathing suit was inspired by none other than everybody’s sweetheart Marilyn Monroe. Strapless or with a collar style halter strap, this glamorous swimsuit has optional side boning for support.

The style afford generous coverage of your patooty and upper thighs which, according to this house’s resident Women-In-Swimsuits expert (also known as my husband), is “hot”. Fits 33″ to a 42″ bust.

Depew 1018: 1950s style beach bustier pattern

Halter neck or strapless, this summer top is the perfect complement to shorts or pedal pushers. Fits 32″ to 38″ bust.

Depew 1019: Ladies french beret pattern

A simple but stunning sew. This easy pattern for a 1930s french beret features two sets of tiny pin tucks at a jaunty angle. The beret band is cut on the bias so one size should fit all (…humans, that is. Apologies to any moose, giant squid, or hammerhead sharks that may be reading).

To enter the giveaway, select which of the three patterns you would love to try and let me know in the comments which one and why.

If you want to ride roughshod over the odds, you can pimp this giveaway post on the social network of your choice or your own blog for one additional entry. If you pimp it, leave me a link in the comments so I can see (no cheating! ;))

Three winners will be selected at random on Sunday, May 6th to receive whichever pattern they chose in their comment.

Good luck! πŸ˜€

  1. No brainer! The one piece bathing suit pattern. I tried to draft on of these last year and…. failed. Sort of. But this was what I was really going for. I love when someone else does the thing I really wanted to do and I don’t have to fool around with math at the drafting table!

  2. I want the one piece bathing suit because I just cannot find an off the peg 1950s style suit. I need I get. My poolside glamour on! Comp also tweeted (pimped) at liannephoto !

  3. I love all of the patterns! I would choose the bustier since I am not so confident with making bathing suits or hats!!

  4. I woule love the vintage swimwear pattern. I’ve been dreaming about a vintage full length piece for when i finally witness a full length summer agian. Who knows when that will be though. i can’t seem to stay in once place for that long.

  5. Definitely the bathing suit, mostly because I’ve been too chicken to sew one yet and need the motivation….in addition to my thighs needing the coverage!

  6. Oh that swimsuit is gorgeous! I’d go for that pattern, since my current pone is about 13 years old and I’ve been meaning to find a nice vintage style pattern to make a replacement with for a while. πŸ™‚

  7. I pick the bathing suit. I don’t feel very comfortable wearing a two piece or a modern bathing suit. I was already thinking about buying a 50s inspired bathing suit, but sewing my own is even better!

  8. I’ll come to the bitter corner, I’m not much of a winner πŸ˜‰
The bathing suit is just gorgeous! I just started sewing and hey why not try a bathing suit? Ahum.
And I do love anything Marilyn…

  9. So hard to choose. But as summer only seems to last a fortnight here…and I haven’t been swimming in ages. I’ll go for the hat. As I have a weakness for hats. I have 15 either shop bought or made in my collection and I don’t feel dressed without one.

  10. I would love to try the one piece bathing suit. I’ve fallen in love with vintage wear in the last year, but most vintage garments I’ve found are too small for my 42″ bust. I would love to be able to rock the Marilyn look on the beach πŸ˜‰

  11. Since I finally got around to watching “The Seven Year Itch” and “Let’s Make Love”, I have to go with the bathing suit. It’s too fun to pass up!

  12. Has to be the swimsuit. I’ve been experimenting with 1950’s & 60’s style two piece swimsuits for a few months & have come up with some cute designs, but a one piece has been beyond my skills. It’s love to give it a go & I Mrs Depew’s are such delightful vintage delicacies.

  13. Oh, such a good giveaway! These are all great patterns. I would go with the beach bustier, as I’m always looking for fun summer separates to make.

  14. The one piece bathing suit. I’m in constant search for the suit that will be flattering for me without being an old lady cover-all!

  15. I’d go for the bathing suit pattern, that would be really a challenge, but hey! I want to look that hot this summer!

  16. I love the bathing suit! I have a similar style suit that I would love to replicate!
    Thanks for offering this!

I also tweeted this giveaway @Wyldehills.

  17. They’re all adorable – but I would love to try the bustier pattern. I’m going on a cruise in June, and am making some vintage patterns to cruise in style! πŸ™‚

  18. I love the hat but I would choose the swimsuit! I see lots of nice vintage inspired suits on the market for the coming summer this year, but nothing would beat being able to make my own in a pretty pattern!

  19. OMG! I would love to try the Depew1001: 1950s inspired one piece bathing suit pattern, I am fascinated by these suits, and the whole style of the 40’s!
I’ve been trying to find the pattern of this type of suite for 1 year, but I couldn’t find a good one!

  20. Oooh, hard to choose, but I think the beach bustier. I’ve just today confirmed a beach holiday in Spain in July and this would be the very incentive to get my belly into shape. I’ll probably buy the swimsuit if I win, or both if I don’t cos now I’ve seen them…..

  21. Definitely the ’50 swimsuit. I follow Mrs Depew Vintage and was totally psyched when she brought out that pattern. I have the hardest time finding suits because the 50s styled already mades are either super expensive and the other types are never the whole package of what I need.

  22. Ooooh, the beach bustier, for sure! I’ve wanted to make one since last summer πŸ˜€

I’ve also been drooling over the flight cap pattern since FOREVER, because it’s BOSS compared to the free one online.

    Mrs. Depew, I <3 you!

  23. How wonderful! I’d love to be entered to win the bathing suit pattern. Since I’ve been a surrogate three times, and given birth to five babies to infertile couples, my belly is just not what it used to be. I’d love to have a suit to wear that is flattering AND covers up my “pooch”. Thank you! πŸ™‚

  24. I’d totally go for the bathing suit! I’ve been trying to draft one for forever, and I’m getting nowhere.

  25. The one-piece bathing suit for sure . I never find swimwear I like because it’s always waaaaay to revealing for me! And the few less revealing ones that I’ve seen have always been beyond my budget. Lovely Job MRS DEPEW, you are one very talented lady!

  26. I’d love the 1950s inspired one piece bathing suit pattern. I’ve been wanting to try lingerie or swimsuit and this pattern is adorable!

  27. The one-piece pattern please! My 19yr old daughter just bought an almost identical swimsuit for an eye-watering price, so if I won I could make her another!

  28. I would love to try the new bathing suit pattern! That style of suit has been on my sewing list for a long time and I’d love to try it out!

  29. it would to be the one piece bathing suit. I used to own a red jenson one piece, my absaloute favorite! I lost it somewhere and havent been able to find a replacement. πŸ™

  30. Oooh, I’m in love with the beach bustier, I’ve been eyeing it on Etsy for quite some time. Gotta love vintage-styled summer, those ladies certainly knew how to dress.

Thanks for the lovely giveaway πŸ™‚

  31. I would love to get my hands on Depew1001: 1950s inspired one piece bathing suit pattern! I accidently gave away my retro styled bathing suit and I really want to make a new one for the summer!
    Athena πŸ™‚

  32. I would choose the beret pattern. I got a black wool one around Christmas and wore it constantly. I have discovered how versatile they are and how easy they are to wear.

  33. Oh my! Decisions, decisions. All three of them are so lovely & absolutely deserving of a place in my too-large stash. I think I will pick the swimsuit, though, since I now live in Florida with relatively easy access to lovely beaches & my favorite swimsuit is getting old and, ahem, a little too small.

  34. My choice would without a question be the bathing suit! Marilyn is one of my biggest idols of all time and creating her gorgeous look would be fabulous!

  35. Wow look at that what luck, I posted on your wall about wanting to buy the bustier one piece swim suit pattern and here you are giving one away. I’m between a 38/40dd chest and it is beyond difficult to find a suit with a bust that fits right and looks stylish. If I don’t win though I would still be more than happy to buy a pattern.. I’m that desperate… I even bought a gorgeous eggplant fabric to make it out of!!! I still hope I win though lol Good luck all.:) Melissa M.

  36. I would LOVE to try making the one-piece bathing suit! It would make me feel so swanky at the pool. Modern suits aren’t really my style and aren’t made of durable fabric, but I adore swimming and am certain this type of suit would fit me perfectly!

  37. Oh what a great idea.

I’d LOVE the one piece bathing suit pattern, I’ve been trying to draft up my own pattern for just a swimsuit like this for ages, and I’ve been stuck all through summer !

    Thanks for the chance πŸ™‚

  38. I am doing textiles for my last year of high school and the one peice 1950s bather pattern is almost exactly the same as my design. I’ve been looking for a one-peice 1950s pattern for ages!

  39. I just discovered MrsDepew today and I love all the beautiful vintage goodies!
I’d give the Marilyn swimsuit a try. I’ve been fascinated by those pictures for a while now.

    Great give-away!

  40. Definitely the bathing suit.

Sadly, my 50’s Butterick pattern that includes a top like the beach bustier turned out to have those pieces missing from the envelope.

  41. I love, love, love, all 3…however, I would like to try out the beach bustier before the hat or suit, I love to sew but I am just not that ambitious!

  42. The bathing suit. I just finished redrafting the bra cups on the Burda bombshell dress from Gertie’s Craftsy course. I’d like to see how different this pattern is and how much redrafting I’d have to do to make it work.

  43. I’d definitely pick the beret pattern!

I’m a wee bit obsessed with 1930s hats and, having recently moved to France, I’ve decided that I really need a beret or two. I have the perfect brown wool flannel picked out to make a matching skirt and beret, but I don’t yet have a pattern.

  44. Oh my, I was just looking for a bathing suit pattern! This one would be perfect! (though I also love the beach bustier…)

Thank you for such a lovely giveaway!

  45. Its currently winter weather in Australia, and in a month Im going overseas where it’ll be summer, I would love to try and create the 50s style beach bustier to flaunt at the beach!
    thanks much!

  46. The wife would really appreciate the one piece. Haven’t made anything yet. But I am collecting up the tools and fabrics to make something in muslin before I go all out.

  47. Absolutely the Marylin bathing suit! Thanks for this giveaway! I’m usually someone from the bitter corner, but maybe this is different?

  48. I like the bathing suit and the bustier, they’re just so cute and definatly my awesome vintage style

  49. Oh my gosh. I was a little girl in the 50s so that one piece bathing suit would ‘suit’ me perfectly now. Really love it!

  50. The one piece bather. Always fantastic patterns to get, and if this is like the french underwear, I would be totally rocking it out at the creek.

Yes, creek. We have no pool lounges to go to. My mojito will still be in hand however.

  51. woweee, I think the bathing costume one would be super, I have a ridiculously long back, so making my own one-piece is the way forward I think! Thanks for the give-away!

  52. The one piece bathing suit! I love one piece bathing suits, I would make in in a rainbow of colour! I love how the 50’s style swimsuits are made to enhance the women’s curves without showing all of your skin! πŸ™‚

  53. Oh, I’d love to try that one piece bathing suit. Been apt to try to make one, have the fabric (for three suits actually) and everything but haven’t been able to make a pattern that cuts it yet… This would really help me on my way! So I cross my thumbs.. πŸ™‚

    / Olivia from Sweden

  54. That’s a tough one i love the swimsuit but the beach bustier is just what i’ve been looking for. but i think the swimsuit wins out because I think I can use the swimsuit top for a cute bustier to. I think you should pick me because I make cute retro pin-up clothing and lingerie and i am a struggling artist i use about 80% recycled fabric and i’m going to socail network this baby. πŸ™‚

  55. I love the one piece. I’ve never made a swimsuit so I’d love to give it a try. Looks so wearable too!!!
