Vintage Sewing

Hello my lovelies!

I was wondering if anyone has managed to find 60s type polyester for sale any where or similar 60s type fabrics. I’ve done countless google searches and come up with nothing. I’d love to be able to buy plain coloured polyester, the sort they used constantly in the 60s for that real vintage feel.
I’m not too up on fabrics, but if anyone can suggest a more easily available fabric suitable for dresses with a similar feel and hang that would have a bit of a vintage vibe. 🙂

Thaaaaaaaank you x

  1. If you don't mind a limited range of solids, you can try searching for "ponte" or "ponte de roma" – for that mid-weight double knit look. It's firm and stable and I use it for my 60's patterns. Unfortunately, I've had a hard time finding pretty colours. But basic neutrals are findable. It usually comes in 58"-60" width. In the US, check Hancock Fabrics.

  2. Thank you! Even in black and white would be perfect and then accent it with more fancy printed fabrics.
    cheers guys!

  3. Joann's has the ponte in several colors. Try ebay for vintage fabric. There are lots of websites that deal in vintage fabric. yard sales are good too. Good luck.

  4. That's a great question and so glad it was answered, I've often thought I'd like to make items from it but dismissed it as unlikely to be available anymore.

  5. Definitely ebay – check under Collectibles, textiles, fabric as well as the Crafts section. In my experience the fabric you find under Collectibles is often more interesting that Crafts, as Crafts listings tend to be a lot of tiny print quilt fabric. However, once in a while you find good stuff. I just bought some poly knit from 1970s under Crafts for about 5.00 – 3 yards, 60 inches wide, which means it was a commercial fabric. Anyway, good luck- and don;t forget tag sales and auctions. Fabric goes for NOTHING at auctions since dealers do';t want to deal with it.
