Pattern search

July 11, 2008

I am searching for a pattern for a dress which I made when I was a teen – a reversible wrap dress with spagetti straps and a tie that wrapped around the waist. I made it twice and wore to both my Jr. and Sr. winter formal dance back in High School. Mine were long, to the floor, but I am not sure if the pattern was like that or I lengthened it. It made up very nice and easy in a drapy fabric and was so flattering. I searched my pattern stash, but alas, it is gone missing. I’ve also looked online everywhere. The photos at the dance don’t show the dress well enough, so I’ve done a sketch to show what it looked like.

The pattern date would be approx 1980. It was likely made by one of the major pattern companies, and was intended to be reversible (worn with the wrap in the front or the back). If anyone could help me find this pattern it would be much appreciated.

  1. I don’t know if this is helpful, but I thought the coincidence was amazing. I just posted a wrap around skirt and wrap around dress pattern on my blog as my “Free Pattern Friday Giveaway”. It is a 1960s dress pattern, but very similar and is also reversible. You might like to check it out.

  2. I have a late 70s or 80s pattern similar to this, it’s shorter but the same design – I’ll have to dig it up later though.

  3. I made this too, back in the early 80’s — and it’s reversible. If I run across the pattern, I’ll let you know.
