Vintage (machine) knitting

By on December 13, 2013

I’ve just finished my first real machine knitted garment! I bought a second hand knitting machine last year, but only had it serviced last week. And now, it is working properly.

The machine, a Brother 710, is vintage itself. It is at least 35 years old, and likely to be even older. Like from the 1960’s.

The pattern I used is from a magazine from 1956. The garment is described there as a dressy sweater but it looks like a fitted cardigan to me. You are supposed to bind the hem and neckline with bias cut fabric but I didn’t do that.

I’m really happy with the result and looking forward to trying more vintage knitting patterns on the knitting machine.
