Butterick 6354 #RetroTikiCollab Project

By on August 11, 2016

Wow, didn’t Abi from the Crafty Pinup do an amazing job on her Bustier to Skirt Pattern Hack Gertie’s 6354 Butterick pattern as part of the #RetroTikiCollab project.

I was also lucky enough to be apart of the #RetroTikiCollab project along with d Abi from The Crafty PinupChristina fromGussets and Godets  and Bianca from Vintage on Tap.

Retro Tiki Collab Project
I’m thrilled to be apart of this project with such talented seamstresses.

For my take on this pattern was to rock the original, by making the pattern as directed.

This was the first time I worked with boning so I was a little nervous but think it all turned out well.

I’m really surprised how good this came out.

For this project I used a cotton navy blue fabric with a golden tropical flower print on it. Not necessarily  very tiki, but I had just enough fabric and I need more blue in my wardrobe.

The entire pattern only took a day and a half to put together, so I was quite pleased with the simplicity of this project.

The shorts and bustier is great for hot days

I wasn’t sure how much wear I would get out of this pattern, but since I’ve made it I’ve worn it a couple of times. This outfit is great for hot days, especially ones we’ve had recently that have hit a 100+.

I’m really glad to be apart of this #RetroTikiCollab project and had a lot of fun making this project. Also, as part of this project I decided to host a fabric giveaway.

Butterick B6167 – My Birthday Dress

By on June 23, 2016

Finally, a real shelf bust dress! This is Butterick 6167 from the Patterns By Gertie line. This also happened to be my 34th birthday dress – yay! The fabric is also from Gertie and I picked it up at JoAnn Fabrics.

I won’t lie, I had a heck of a time with fitting this thing. I made so many alterations that it was hard to keep track of. You can read all about the headache on my blog. I actually almost gave up – but I’m glad I didn’t because I think it turned out really cute!

Green Shell Top Tutorial

By on May 19, 2013

Today I will be showing you a variation on Burda Shift Dress 09/2012 #107

This variation turns the top into a 50s/60s shell style top with a cross back. You can use Burda 09/2012 #107 or Collette patterns Laurel as your base as we only need the front and part of the back of the pattern.

If you have another pattern for a shift dress or plain top, you can use this too! I will instruct you to make this top to fit you so make sure you have your measuring tape and if you have one a dressmakers mannequin or packing tape shell (if you ever made one). I don’t have a mannequin and I did ok so don’t worry if you don’t have one
