We Sew Retro is a community of ladies and gents who adore vintage patterns, vintage fabric, and vintage style. We love sharing our vintage and retro projects with sewing fanatics worldwide for inspiration and encouragement.
Who should become a contributor?
If you sew vintage or retro inspired clothes, we can’t wait to see what you’re making! Whether you love using vintage patterns, vintage fabric, or just create garments that have a retro feel to them, you’ll fit right in here!
Posts made to We Sew Retro can be any of the following:
- showing off something you made from a vintage pattern
- showing off something you made with vintage fabric
- showing off something you made that is a modern interpretation of a vintage design
- sharing vintage sewing inspiration (for example, scans of vintage pattern catalogs, magazines, or advertisements)
- asking for advice on a particular sewing/construction/fabric/pattern/fashion history issue
- giving advice on a particular sewing/construction/fabric/pattern/fashion history issue
If you are unsure whether a particular post you want to make is appropriate, save it as a draft and let me know. I’ll be happy to offer some guidance.
While many of our members also run vintage or sewing related businesses (including yours truly), in your posts we want to see what you’re sewing, not what you’re selling. You’re more than welcome to link to your store in your profile (which appears automatically all over the site), but please leave links to your store out of your post.
If your intention is to drive more traffic to your personal blog, please remember that creating rich and interesting posts will always attract more people to your other endeavors than just dropping a link. Engage with our readers and they will engage with you 🙂
If you would like to host a giveaway on We Sew Retro, please contact me to discuss. The only giveaways permitted on the site are posted from my account.
What if I just want to read and don’t want to post?
We Sew Retro is a source of inspiration for sewing/vintage enthusiasts worldwide! If you want to keep up with our creations but don’t want to blog about your own sewing, you don’t need to become a contributor – just subscribe to our RSS feed to have posts automatically delivered to your RSS reader of choice (Google Reader & Bloglovin are some popular ones).
Do I have to have my own blog in order to contribute a post?
No, there’s no requirement to have your own blog. In fact, if you don’t want the hassle or commitment of maintaining a website, We Sew Retro is perfect for you. Every member gets an archive page (for example, see mine) that you can use as a digital portfolio, so all your work is up online (and getting incredible traffic) without much effort from you.
If you do have your own blog or website, just put it into your profile and it will appear all over the site giving you plenty of opportunities to pick up new readers.
What happens when I register?
When you click register, you will pick a username and let us know your email address. We’ll email you a password, and when you log in to the site, you will have enough access to create your first post. You should tell us a little about who you are and what you do. We love pictures! When you submit your first post, it goes into a moderation queue. Once your first post is approved, you’re in! Any posts you create from that point on will be published to Sew Retro without delay.
