Giveaway

If, like me, you have spent most of this week in a fog of a winter cold, you might have snoozed through our giveaway with the ever tremendous Ohhh Lulu.

Sarah, the mad genius (disclaimer: she’s probably not mad)  behind Ohhh Lulu makes some of the most gorgeous underwear and she wants to make some especially for you. You own custom-made pair of panties in the style of your choice – what a fab way to treat yourself to some prance-worthy delicates.

Run, don’t walk, over to the giveaway post to get your entry in before it closes tomorrow (Friday in the US).

She has also generously provided a 10% off coupon code that expires tomorrow (details in the giveaway post), so jump on that while you can – I know I’ll be treating myself to all of her patterns!

Hey y’all

I’ve been a long time reader and equally long time thinker of posting but not getting round to it :)  Anywho I’ve sewed several vintage garments since I started sewing at the beginning of 2011 but the latest one I definitely think is a worthy of post on the site.

A few weeks ago one of my very dear friends got married and I was one of her bridesmaid and made her bridesmaid dresses .  We’d always wanted to go for a vintage look and I applaud her for trusting me and despite some hairy moments it all came off fabulously as you can see below.  I used Simplicity 3592 as a jumping off point.  You can read more details of the wedding and in fact the wedding the week before that also involved vintage sewing and cake at my blog phew!  Ooh there’s a giveaway going on too if you get in quick.

Best wishes,

Miss D

We had a record number of entries in our giveaway for the hat of your choice from Lady Eve Millinery, which confirms two things I already knew:

  1. Lady Eve Millinery‘s hats are awesome
  2. There is no such thing as ‘too many hats’

The lucky winner is….drumroll please….

…Mrs Gendy, who chose  the gorgeous Babette Cap Fascinator Hat. Congratulations Mrs Gendy – check your email for a message from me  :)

It has been a real treat to support a small business with this giveaway. It can be tough starting out on a new business venture so I know all the love you have shown is appreciated :)

If you didn’t win, you can console yourself with a $10 discount on any Lady Eve Millinery hat for the next week. To claim the discount, just mention WeSewRetro in the ‘message to seller’ field at checkout.

Here’s a message from Aimee….

Hello Ladies!

I am deeply touched by your gracious comments about my hats! Every word has brightened my day. Making these hats is an exercise in love of vintage fashion and style. I take great joy in breathing new life into an old block.

I started this endeavor because although vintage hats are still out there…their condition is often poor, the style unsuitable, the fit wrong, etc. Since I also love collecting and sewing from vintage patterns, I thought if any gals could appreciate these hats, it would be the lovely ladies here!

Please do check my shop often. I hat more blocks and styles to add including bridal versions of both the 1940s Olivia and 1950′s Grace. I have also recently come into a wider brim hat that simply screams Casablanca, a sculpted pillbox….am eyeing an upturned cloche block and have a sculpted cloche being replicated.

Every hat form you see can be created in your choice of around 40 different colors of lush velour fur felt… or from high quality parasisal straw. Please feel free to convo me at any time.

Cheers
Aimee
