Blue Crazy Daisy 1960’s Dress- Simplicity 3833

By on April 3, 2013

I wanted share a dress my sister Viola made me out of  Simplicity 3833, a 60’s re-pro pattern. I picked view B with the short sleeves. We’ve also made the sleeveless one which came out really cute too. This dress is simple to make and can be completed rather quickly making it one of our favorite dresses to whip up. I chose a blue floral cotton fabric that was on sale at JoAnn for only two dollars a yard so I couldn’t pass it up!

Keep on sewing!

A Brown Linen Dress With a Retro Look

By on January 21, 2013

Hello fellow sewers!

I’ve had this dress for a long time, despite its retro look it is not vintage and I didn’t get it at a thrift store. In fact, the department store I purchased it at is now out of business! One day when sorting out my clothes I came across this dress. I liked it but I had not wore it in ages, so I decided to get rid of it. Even thought it was messed up (the tabs sewn on to the dress were crooked, one of the sleeves were defective and it was really tight in the hip area) I was reluctant to get rid of it, I was sure I could make it work somehow!

Besides needing a good ironing, it appears there is nothing wrong with it, accept the tabs. If I kept the dress the way it was- it would be a strictly standing dress because it’s way too tight when I sit down and very uncomfortable.

So what did I do with it?

I decided to hack it off and made it a groovy top! Now I really like it especially with the belt. For a late 60’s look I’ve paired with some black taperd pants and flat black boots.

The Facts:

 Time to complete: 1hr

First worn: August 19th 2012 for the pictures 😉

Wear again? Yes!

Total Cost: Free

McCalls 9279 In Light Blue

By on September 1, 2012

Hello, this is my first post on the We Sew Retro.  My name’s Vera and I LOVE vintage patterns!!! Anyway… to the sewing!!

My sisters and I bought this 1960’s pattern off Etsy (above) and I was the first one to break the ice and use it! I chose view C. It turned out pretty much how I pictured…It didn’t really take that much imagination to envision. Everything in my closet that I’ve made has been fabric with a print-so I opted for a solid color fabric. I was originally thinking a lighter powdery blue, but I couldn’t find any so this was the closest that I got.

The cool thing about this pattern was that it fit me perfectly; usually I have to make some adjustment to vintage patterns but not for this one!

This is one of my favorite dresses now, I love the pockets that I added!
