My mom bought me these patterns a couple weeks ago and I am just getting around to posting them. I have the best mom ever! And I got a call from her yesterday saying that she just picked up 6 more for me!
I kinda want to make the men’s boxer shorts. They are just too awesome for words!

Hi All! I’m wanting to sew up Gertie’s bow tie blouse but I can’t seem to figure out what size I need to make or at least start with and then size up or down, depending. My measurements (as I’m not a small gal) – bust – 40″, waist – 38″ and hips – 40″ and if I go by the sizing she has for the patterns in her book: for the bust I would choose size 10, for my waist, size 16 and for my hips size 6. I think the heat might be frying my brain because for some reason I just can’t seem to figure this one out and I’m sure there’s a simple answer to it all.
I have been looking for a dress form for awhile now. The big problem, my budget. Then this week I thought I would check craigslist, just for the heck of it. And I found one!
And it adjusts to my size (ok I may have to add some padding to the middle bits)! It’s hard pink plastic, that needs a bit of a wash with some white vinegar as it still has that “farm fresh” smell. But other than that, it’s perfect! Now all she needs is a name. So I’m hoping to enlist some help from other WeSewRetro’ers. Check out my blog for more details.
Any tips and tricks for sewing from a vintage pattern
By SundayDriveDesigns on July 4, 2012Hi We Sew Retro-ers! I’m a long time stalker and a first time post-er. I am about to start my very first vintage pattern project and I was hoping that the We Sew Retro community might be able to throw a couple of tips and tricks my way. I’m trying to decide between 3 patterns – the Vintage Vogue reprint pattern 8811 and these two.
I’ve read all the pattern instructions and they all seem do-able. I’m a self taught beginner sewer and I try and challenge myself with each new sewing project. I will be tracing the pattern (thanks to some really big windows in my apartment), and I’ll be making a muslin version first and then figure out where I need to make adjustments on the pattern. I’m hoping to start it this weekend, so I can wear it all summer long!
