oldfashioned

Fellow sewists, I know you’ll understand when i tell how excited i was when a friend brought by a huge stash of old sewing magazines! It’s not the longed for haul of 50′s and 60′s magazines with all the patterns intact (I know, but one can dream…) but it is about 20 or 30 burda magazines from the 70s and most have patterns still inside. I’d say I’ve done well…right?

And there were a couple of 50s mags thrown in just to make it even sweeter.

Hop on over to the blog for more vintage sewing porn!

Alright, ok, you got me, it’s not retro…but I’m making it retro!

I have a little problem with sailor addiction everyone, yes, its true, I’m a nautical freak! I love that 50′s pin up aesthetic, the red and blue, the hats! I mean, who doesn’t want to look like this. I totally do!

My attempt was with Colette’s Jasmin pattern, not strictly sailor until I got my hands on it.

my attempt at a sailor salute!

Fine white wool with contrasting cuffs and collar in navy and white polka dot….hell yes!

More about it over here on my blog

in Jackets

A refashioning project- a coat from a curtain.

Trying to look a bit Chanel- ish?

A short cropped jacket which was my first attempt in lining and jacketing! Exciting stuff.

Trying for a vintage inspired Chanel look. More info on the old blog.

After all the trouble it cause dme i think i’ll have to wear it, although i’m not sure i like it at all!
