1950’s Dress

By on

I decided to go the other direction this time and have a more fitted Wiggle Dress. This again is made of 100% cotton and has a V neck front and back!

The pattern is New Style Mail Order 3118. I was the first to open and use it, so very exciting to unfold a pattern from that time knowing it was folded by some factory worker and never touched until now. I am glad to have put it to good use.

I love the dress and will try some others in different fabrics. More details and thoughts on this dress at http://lilliansesembles.blogspot.com

1950’s Dress

By on July 25, 2013

I finally finished my dress and had a sunny day to take some pictures.

This is made from pattern Vogue Vintage 8789. It was very easy to make, I bought a two layer petticoat for underneath and wow am I pleased with it. I used very soft cotton in blue floral and it really does work well with the dress.

Here is a close up shot of the button detail on the shoulders.

Now to go to a tea party….

1940’s Dress

By on June 24, 2013

So I made my second 40’s dress. I am beginning to really understand the old patterns and sometimes think they are actually easier then the modern ones and am getting better each time. I really love this one with all of the buttons and neck line. Although the pictures do not show this so well, it really does nip in at the waist like the pattern picture, very feminine.  With researching rations and coupons of the wartime, buttons were used rather more then metal zippers. Fits really comfortably and I love the material. Perfect for this hot weather.

Another one showing the dress with my new 40’s replica shoes, love them and sooo comfortable. I am so not good at having my picture taken, usual reason you see my items on a mannequin.

1940’s Style Blouse

By on June 22, 2013

So in my endeavors to make a 40’s wardrobe I made a blouse, I love the puffy sleeves and I really like the peter pan collars and I found a pattern thats fits both. This is a modern pattern but has that vintage feel. The pattern is Butterick 5711 and was not too difficult to make, the collar needed extra attention to get it just right but don’t they all….   I also found this perfect baby blue material with little white dots and got it at a great bargain. So pleased with it. Looks really good with my wide leg pants or my rockabilly trousers.

Now to make some in really nice material so I can wear them to the reenactments I attend also the dances. I love how versatile these are too as I can wear it with my dresses  or dungarees. There is no such thing as a bad hair day with with these sweet things!
