It’s been a good long while since we hosted a giveaway but when I heard about the new Simplicity pattern by Laura from Sew Chic Pattern Company I knew you guys would love it!
Laura is a hugely talented designer of vintage inspired originals (see some of her amazing Sew Chic patterns right here in the WeSewRetro shop) and you are going to love her flirty new pattern, Simplicity 1061 which hits all the usual Simplicity-stocking retail outlets on June 12th.
But why wait? Throw your hat in the ring by leaving a comment on this post and you could win a copy of Simplicity 1061 for your very own. Just tell me what fabric would you pick for this dress/jacket combo? Polka dots? Gingham? Floral? Avengers? Something else? The winner will be chosen at random on Wednesday, July 8th. As always on WeSewRetro, the giveaway is open to everyone, no matter where in the world you live.
Would you like an additional chance to win? Heck yes you would. Laura is hosting a sewalong for the new pattern and will be picking an additional winner from amongst the sewalong signups. Head over here to sign up for the sewalong – I’m signing up myself as soon as I finish writing this post! Don’t miss out on her wealth of knowledge.
Here’s the nitty gritty from the back of the envelope, because I do love a line drawing when planning things out in my head. You can scope out the details on the Simplicity site too.
Good luck!
I will enjoy making this dress. I love anything retro.
I would make it in a cute vintage floral fabric – Its a nice little number
I just love this pattern! I would choose a light pink or violet cotton and use a lacy fabric for the edging :3 Thanks for the opportunity to enter!

ooh what a lovely pattern! i think mine would have to be in a floral 🙂
I have a great cotton with a brushed lilac color print that would be pretty as this.
This would be so fun to make! 🙂
Something with animals on it, because those are my favorite fabrics.
I would love this pattern in my size . I would make it with vintage fabric.
ohhh a worldwide give a away… Wauwww….:-). I’d make one gingham an one floral, lovely pattern
Love this! I would either make it with a vintage floral or a Marvel fabric 🙂
I would make it in a vibrant floral with lots of colours. It is beautiful!
I would go for a tartan for the main color in the dress, and then a coordinating color for the trim. (I’m kind of crazy about tartans these days). I’d also be curious to adapt the skirt into a straight, semi-wiggle style.
Great pattern!
Well most of my wardrobe is already filled with pink floral dresses….. So i might make it from a pink floral…….. Or I did just buy some very bright yellow Sunflower print cotton, which would look great used in a dress like this.
I would definitely use a solid eggplant/plum colour
Red red red. Red gingham would be nice or white dots on a red background. Mmmm. Summer.
I would probably make it polka dot or checkers.!
A great pattern. I World live to Realist it in .floral/ornamental fabric live tolle.
I would like to realise it in floral/ornamental fabric like toile.
I’d use a nice seersucker, either blue or green, in a gingham print.
If I make this for my best friend, it’ll have to be in a girly pink floral cotton. If it’s for me, then something in black white and red then…
I would love to work with this pattern! Would do a grey buffalo plaid with green trim.
If I made this dress (which I definitely will), I would use a light blue vintahe sheet I’ve been hoarding for the perfect project. It has a large floral pattern on one edge that I would potentially make as the skirt portion of the dress. The bodice would probably be the plain part of the sheet and since the flowers are different shades of darker blues, I might add some dark blue piping around the waist and neckline!
I have a cute 70s flower power floral that would suit this!
That was my comment (anon)
I would do black with red contrast, or maybe a big beautiful floral!
A bright floral print would be perfect for summer!
Here’s the fabric I would use for this pattern: http://www.ebay.com/itm/221797306804
Ooh my zombie fabric is crying out to be used for this lovely number!
I think I’d have to go for a nice bright colour pop – either a yellow or pink with a contrasting edging.
Nice pattern. I need it!!I love vintage patterns I would do it with a dark polka dot or a black and white gingham print. I’m so happy it is a worldwide giveaway.
I am looking for a autumn leaves print in cotton for this beautiful dress.
I would love to make this dress a few ways! I have a white cotton/linen with black floral silhouette along the bottom. I also have quite a few yards of a black on black zebra print in a heavier satin that would really make for a classier dress. But what I really really really would love to do is buy some stargazer fabric from spoon flower and make a Ms Frizzle dress! She was the teacher on The Magic Schoolbus for those who aren’t familiar. But I do love the idea of this being done in zombie fabric as well! If I don’t win this is going on my list for when simplicity patterns go on sale!
I would make this dress in a bird print cotton, because birds.
Also, Wednesday July 8th is my birthday so that would make a great gift!
I would like to do this dress in an old sleeping sheet that I just rescued! Its small stripes in yellow and white and I think it would be supercute!
Probably polkadots. I love those!
pokka dots
checkers
flowers
Yay such a gorgeous pattern! So exciting to see Laura collaborating with Simplicity. 🙂
I’d love to be in to win, please. I’ve got my eye on a wine coloured poplin with mustard yellow polka dots for this one….
Oh how I would love to have This pattern! I would defenitely use gingham for This one!
I’d make mine in solid colours so I could get more wear out of it 🙂 First one I’d make would be a simple black poly cotton blend! I’m going to sign up for the sewalong too!! 🙂
^^ I should have signed in first – Anonymous me can’t win!
Love this dress — would be a lovely summer dress!
Floral for dress and cotton voile (maybe swiss dot for jacket) very light and airy
I’m thinking tonal. Like a blush pink solid for the dress & a darker pink for the bolero.
Hmmm, I think one of those skull & roses fabrics would make a rather funky dress!
I would use red and cream polka dot fabric, with a net petticoat underneath!
I would go for the long sleeve version in a deep emerald silk with either red or black for the collar, belt etc. to make it more of a winter evening dress
I would love to make this in a bold color with polka dots, or just a solid color with a great contrast for the jacket and waistline. Great pattern!
Spring green gingham! With floral accents 🙂 that would be so cute!
Love this pattern! I think I would make it in a polka dot fabric, since my wardrobe suffers an appalling dearth of dots. Perhaps white dots on an apple green fabric?
I bought 5 yards of the most lovely flowery print cotton from our local Pow Wow that happens each year in the fall. I have been saving it for something special, and this would look adorable in that floral fabric. 🙂
I think I would use polkadots or maybe a floral pattern. and a coordinating solid for the jacket. Such a fun dress.
I would love to be able to make this up in a solid cotton fabric and then add some embroidery or fabric paint designs to the skirt. Would love to see what everyone makes from this pattern!
What an awesome pattern! I would use floral fabric for a dress and solid for a bolero..
I’d like to make this dress in a polka dot fabric.
Love this! I would make the dress in a novelty print with a plain jacket or possibly the other way around!
If I were lucky enough to win this, I have some lovely cotton fabric with school/houses on it. Although the gingham looks gorgeous too.
I don’t know why, but we don’t have any patternsellers left in Norway. How I do miss them! I would love yo get my hands on a pattern like this. Love it 😀
I would love this in a periwinkle blue sighted trim…..sigh!!!!!
That we meant to say ” with a red trim, sigh” lol
So pretty! Love vintage/retro designs. I’m automatically drawn to polka dots. Checkerd print might be cute too, or small floral.
I was going to say gingham until you mentioned avengers! That may end up happening. Or star wars or doctor who. 🙂
A doctor who themed dress
I have almost purchased this pattern twice recently, but I was at the fabric store for comissioned work and money’s tight in my house, so my pattern obsession has to wait for awhile 🙂 gorgeous pattern though! One day soon I will get one!!

Definitely a lilac polka dot with white trim!
This would be a great first gingham project. Looks beautiful,
This is interesting, but it wouldn’t be very flattering on me as I am long-waisted. I AM a fan of several of her other patterns. I can see that the lower waist is a trend in her designs.
Oh this Simplicity 1061 dress is just wonderful! I think it would look good on me and most anybody really. Even if I don’t win I’d love to see what this group does with this fabulous pattern! Thank you, Kathy
pretty drress
oops, dress
Oh, I love this! Simplicity patterns at my favorite, too! 🙂
I’d make the dress in Michael Millers Aeroplane fabric with a blue with red piping jacket.
I love the polka dot version on the envelope but would probably look for a floral and matching solid. Or maybe a nice Doctor Who print.
I’d use a border print for the dress, with the border on the skirt hem. Then a coordinating solid for the bolero.
Pink, pink,pink.
This screams for stripes.
I would use a bold floral I think. Going to a wedding in September and this would be the perfect pattern!
Floral 🙂
I would change the color to an Irish Theme!!!!
I love the style of this dress – cool, but covered.
I’d love to sew this dress with a nice fallish floral & a solid color jacket for versatility!
I love all of Laura’s patterns. Always great designs.
I would make this beauty in a lilac gingham with a dark purple bolero, and also another in olive green with pink belt, trim and piping.
Love this very feminine pattern. I would probably make it in polka dots as shown. BUT couldn’t resist the beautiful florals . I would be thrilled to have this pattern.
Cherri’s on black, with red and black jacket
Toe, this desperately needs a novelty print! I need a Firefly themed dress in my life. Or of course a teal or red gingham.
*To me
Cotton poplin. In a print featuring rhinoceros backsides.
I’d love a polka dot version of this dress…. and a novelty print…and a checked version!
I saw this pattern but thought it would be too challenging for me but now I kinda need it in my life due to the SEWALONG! If I made this dress, I would pick a pretty girly cotton. I’m a wanderer when it comes to fabric stores so whatever sugary sweet girly girl print I could find!
3 looks Retro style? YES please!!
Soon ca-ute!
What fun!! Pink stripes or border print!
Oooh pretty, I want it too
What an adorable dress! I love the longer bodice on it. I can imagine it with contrasting colors.
I would make this in polka dots. It’s so sweet.
Floral Hawaiian prints… that’s it!
I would use black and white everything, florals, dots, checks. Why not accent with white as well?
My mind is full of possibilities with ways to make this design and use solids with prints or patterns for accent. I would love to win and then give this dress a whirl once done.
