Sunset Stripes Dress (Vintage Vogue 8789)

October 11, 2013

Hi everyone, I’m here to share one of my recent projects, which I’m calling my Sunset Stripes dress. This is the dress I made for the Fall For Cotton Sewalong, hosted by Rochelle of Lucky Lucille and Tasha of By Gum By Golly. I pattern I used was a mish-mash of Vintage Vogue 8789 (bodice) and the Cambie dress by Sewaholic (skirt) and the fabric is a woven striped cotton by Kaffe Fassett. I based it on a gorgeous striped vintage dress from Dear Golden Vintage that I loved but which wasn’t my size (or price range!) I made a number of modifications to the original patterns- for more pictures and info and to see the inspiration dress, check out my post on my blog, Mint Green Sewing Machine!

  1. Oh my! That is an awesome dress you made here! Your work(wo)manship is superb. Beautiful work, love how the stripes make this dress.

  2. I love this dress! I started following you once I saw it in the Fall For Cotton Sewalong. If you put together a pattern, I would purchase two, and then one one for every person whom complemented my dress. Honest!

  3. How fabulous and sewn with such precision and expertise. I adore the fact that you have matched every single chevron and then purposely covered each button in a separate cover way – its attention to detail that makes home sewing exactly what it should be UNIQUE AND AMAZING. You are a very talented lady and the dress looks superb.

  4. Fabulous dress – beautiful colors, great design, great stripe piecing! I like that you kept the side chevrons, these are the kinds of touches that makes a dress wonderful. This looks great on you!
