Vintage Sewing

Sort of Retro-ish?

October 22, 2013

I finally finished my first vintagey dress, although I’m not really sure how I feel about it. The fabric I used had been packed away for a number of years by a friend-of-a-friend’s grandmother, and was given to me since no one in the family sewed. I’m not sure what type of fabric it is, but it’s really thin but pretty. I used a Sew Simple pattern (A2004) and the result? Eh. It reminds me of an old lady’s nightie, unless you wear a belt.

Rather frumpish, really...

Here’s a close-up of the fabric. I was pinning the bias tape to it, thus the large amount of pins.

Pinaholic, apparently...

The dress as a whole is sort of cute with a belt and cardi, but I’d definitely use a different material AND make it a size smaller. Next on my plate- for myself, anyways- is the very popular Butterick B4790 wrap dress. With dinosaurs.
