Just finished this rather fetching blue cotton day dress from vintage Simplicity pattern 4980 (late 50s/early 60s)

I was not defeated by the hidden collar, by the soft pleats or the side zip closing (all firsts for me!)

More about this on my blog, please do pop over and have a look, as usual any advice that would make my life easier would be greatly appreciated!

Hello I’m Stacey, 30 something, Manchester residing. This (and my blog) is to chronicle my onward plodding adventure into sewing and knitting. I have always been a lover of crafts, from a young age I have embroidered and dabbled a little with sewing and knitting. I have made a couple of garments and would like to share what I have learnt and what I will be learning as I go along in the hope that you can help me and I can help you (more of the former than the latter I think!)

thank you, and it’s mine too, that cross over from 50s to 60s made way for some very elegant styling :)

What an era, huh? This just looks great. Congrats on getting all those difficult items out of the way, too. Undaunted courage = successful side zipper! Thanks for sharing.

Thank you very much! The hair takes a day of setting from a wet set to look like this!

I love your dress! I also love your hair. I want to get my hair cut like that – how do you find a hairdresser who can do that, what do you tell them or do you take in pictures?

Hi Sue

My hair is just on my shoulders in a straight bob, no layers. I pin curl it the night bfre I want to have it set like this, I put up a tutorial on youtube of how I do it a awhile back. This style is just a little more brushed out than the tut.

Here’s the link, I hope that helps :)
