Pantone 2013 Fall Colors Meet the 1940s and 50s

Hi all!

This is my first post in a very long time.  This ensemble is the result of The Sew Weekly Reunion sewalong.

The patterns used for this outfit are Advance 8623 (1957) and Simplicity 1590 (a 1940s Retro reissue).

I used a silk twill for the top and tencel twill for the skirt.  In keeping with the eras of the patterns, I opted to pink my seams and use hem tape rather than using my serger. I used used vintage covered buttons for the top and vintage zipper in the skirt.

I love how this outfit is both modern and retro.

Happy sewing everyone!

    • Thanks. I liked it so much that I also got it in a silk chiffon. I just have to find the right project….

  • Gorgeous fabric on the blouse, and lovely outfit overall. The colour combination is beautiful! And I’ve been seeing that re-issued blouse pattern around about lately, perhaps I’ll have to try it myself!

  • That’s a beautiful outfit! The blouse is very flattering on you and gives that feminine – hourglass – look!!

  • This is lovely! I’ve been thinking of getting the Simplicity 1590 to add some staples to my wardrobe that have a 1940s retro feel to them- was it easy to sew?
