Hello all,
A very quick post today to show you a very quick project. Here is my 1920s dress that I wore to the Roaring 20s Lawn Party at Castle Hill, in Ipswich, Mass.

My dress was quickly thrown together in the days leading up to the event. I actually finished sewing the belt and sash in the car on the way to the event. I used a 1920s pattern from my collection but shortened it significantly. I also left off the collar, and added a large box pleat to each side of the dropped waist. The belt and sash were a last minute add on, the dress would have been waaaay too plain without them. I used a vintage buckle on the sash and a little brown bow at the front for a bit of extra detail.

I used my vintage wave clips to style my hair, which didn’t turn out as nicely as I had hoped so I kept my hat on all day. :) The event was a lot of fun and the weather was perfect. Couldn’t have asked for a better day! The classic cars and beautiful grounds offered many picture opportunities. There are more pictures posted on my blog.

Pattern – vintage 1920s Pictograf 2102
Fabric – Linen blend and cotton both from the stash
Buckle – Also from the stash
Total cost – Basically nothing. I think I paid around $12.00 for the pattern but it’s been so long I can’t remember.
Where again? – Probably not. I don’t think this is the most flattering look for me so I will most likely sell this one at some point. If anyone is interested feel free to email me vintagevisions27@gmail.com

My name is Emily. I have always loved vintage and historic fashions. My main focus is the 18th century but I love the classy look of the 1920s, through the 1950s. I enjoy researching, collecting, and creating historic and vintage clothing just for fun. Any excuse to get dressed up is fine with me! I love the dress! Don’t get discouraged with the 1920′s style–remember, all the women wore girdles/corselettes back then, and drop-waist dresses are not the most flattering for anyone! (I even heard a female producer of the film “Enchanted April” mention that in the film commentary.)
I’m going to be tackling some 1920′s costumes for my upcoming film project in the next year…definitely going to invest in the girdles for underneath!

I love it! Very Downton Abbey-esque. Love it!
