Papunya Possum Pattern Print Dress

by Ronnie

in Vintage Sewing

Fabric sourced through vintage seller. Seller says fabric 40′s circa.
My creation for Sew for Victory
Dress and bolero made from Simplicity 1578 (1945)
Pattern is classed as easy but I did have a few problems with my fabric. Suffice to say, thank f… I have finally finished it!!
V for Victory indeed!
Fabric looks like Aboriginal Dot Painting. Papunya is an area in Alice Springs (AU) Aboriginal people paint their Dreamings onto canvas, most famous artist is Clifford Possum Tjapaltjarri.

Loved your dress, Ronnie, but reeeally would love to see that fabulous fabric close up. Didn’t realize there might be fabric with dreaming designs on it. 1940s or not, is any of it available somewhere? I was gifted a bowl with yellow designs by Judy Napangardi Watson, which I love & use daily.
Cheers,
D’ellis
