How do you do? I’m new here, and a retro sewing enthusiast from Austin, TX. This dress is inspired by Joan from Mad Men, and uses the 1950s pattern Butterick 8576. I’m quite in love!
I used a wool gabardine in a nice royal blue to match my Joan-inspired look. I also used the fabric to make the matching buttons and belt.
The pattern calls for gathers at the bust instead of darts, and I must say, I quite like it. It made for easy fitting and it gives a lot of ease which makes the dress comfortable to wear.
