This is the second time I have used this pattern: Vintage Butterick 2638. It is such a comfy fit. This one seemed to take a little longer than the first. Only because I made a few adjustments and included longer sleeves but I am happy with the result. Not totally sure what the fabric is. Its 100 per cent cotton and has a lovely rib going on. A friend of mine was decluttering and gave me a bag of mixed fabric. I knew what this was destined for as soon as I opened the bag!
I’m not sure it would be recognised as a vintage 40s dress, especially styled with wellies and a Hello Kitty brolly. But needs must in this relentlessly rainy UK climate! I’m so glad to have found the perfect home for these sweet little ‘target’ buttons.

I love it, the buttons are perfect
Thank you savagespider
Ooo, love the buttons and the fabric. I think it suits the pattern well.
Thank you Frances. It feels great to wear
Thanks so much Em. You are absolutely right.
I suspect the wellies are very 1940s! Would have looked better with the full five inches of length over the welly tops perhaps…
I think you are right about the length Harriet. I am getting there. I have worn short/mini skirts for so long I’m finding it a bit difficult to lower that hem much more below the knee. But it needs to be done… next time perhaps!
I love this dress. It fits you beautifully. Well done!
Thank you Joyatri
Oh I love the buttons! Your dress is fantastic!
Totally stunning! Those buttons really make it that extra bit more special xx
