Mad Men dress using Simplicity 5961

Hey everyone!

Us UK types are waiting with bated breath for the first screening of Mad Men tonight! I’ve joined in with Julia Bobbin’s most awesome challenge: To make a Mad Men dress, in honour of its return!

Mad Men dress challenge

I selected a Joanie dress (like about 80% of everyone doing the challenge!) and used Simplicity 5961.

I reduced the shoulder width by 3/4″ each side and reduced the bodice width by about 1/4″ to the waist area.I had bought ribbon for the trim but bias binding worked much better on the curves. I liked it so much – I stuck it on the sleeves as well!

If you have time pop on over to my blog for more silly pics and info 🙂

Just gonna mix myself a cocktail and settle in for the night!

  • très jolie robe , vraiment réussie .Le biais blanc apporte une grande élégance à cette robe.

  • Nice job! Like it

  • As you say in your blog entry it diverged quite a bit from a Joan dress – but in the end you wound up with quite a nifty, Mod little Megan Calvet Draper dress!

  • I love this!!! So pretty!

  • Very cute! And like someone else said, very Season 5 Megan.

  • This is such a cute dress – I’ve actually been looking for a pattern just like this – well done!
