Butterick Fashion News

December 14, 2010

I recently received some Butterick Fashion News from the late 40’s and early 50’s.  So in December, because I have no time for sewing, I am sharing select tidbits of these Fashion News magazines on my blog.

Because the cold weather last week was getting me down, I started with the June 1949 Fashion News.

This is the only one with the City Paris insignia – odd.

Feel free to come check them out!

  1. Could it be the City of Paris? That was the name of a famous department store in San Francisco, which might have given them out to their customers – just a guess.

  2. Thats correct, Laura.
The bottom part of those magazines were branded with the shopping store they were given away in.
I collect them too, and I have many from all different stores all over the country.

  3. I think Laura is right. It looks like insignia is from the once wonderful City of Paris store in San Francisco. See this link if you're interested. http://www.noehill.com/sf/landmarks/nat1975000471.asp

I loved the store as a teenager. They always had exceptionally skilled needlework employees on hand to assist you with anything you got stuck on, crochet, knitting, needlepoint, sewing. Free of course and they didn't ask where you had purchased the materials. Not like wandering around Joann's these days.
