Non-vintage Pattern with a Very Vintage Feel

March 7, 2010

Hi everyone,

I have been watching Mad Men — I know I’m a bit late to the party, but life has been a bit crazy these past few months. I’ve just watched the first episode of the second series. And am in a constant state of ‘I want, I want, I want’. I especially love Joan and Betty Draper’s frocks.

So…. while this particular frock is not from a vintage pattern – it is Burda Style’s Jenny – I do feel as though it is quite vintage looking. It is me channelling a bit of Joan’s ‘come hitherness’. What do you think? More pictures are over on my blog if you’d like to drop by!!

  1. Thanks everyone!

Original Mischief – Mad Men is an American TV series set in the late 50s early 60s. The clothing of both the men and women is absolutely to die for.

It is about the advertising industry – the ad men on Madison Avenue. It depicts the stereotypical (and extremely sexist) male and female roles of that time. It is completely addictive, and not just for the clothing.

It did show here in Australia – but I have bought series one and two on DVD as I missed their run on TV. I think they are making series four now?

You should definitely watch it — it is fantastic, and if you love 50s and early 60s fashion will adore it just for that.

  2. Rachel, thanks so much! Will have to see if I can get the DVD's. My love is 60's and 70's clothing but love a dress that goes 'swoosh' too! 🙂
