I had to share this with you all because I knew you’d appreciate it.
I picked up this Singer 99k circa 1956 at an estate sale yesterday for $40 USD! It’s in great shape and runs like a dream.
Sorry for the poor photo quality, my husband had our camera and all I had was my Blackberry.
I also got this Marian Martin pattern in the mail this week and am dying to make it up with a pencil skirt in stead (adjusting the lines of the skirt a little shouldn’t be too hard? right?)
I think it would be so much fun to sew this pattern on that machine.
The 99k was a well made machine. Congratulations on finding one that looks so good!
If you have trouble changing the skirt lines consider using a totally different skirt pattern with the bodice of this one. I do sometimes. Lay out the pattern pieces (or trace them and pin together) and see if you can match them well–darts, side seams–a little easing is fine.
I am drooling over your new Singer! What a gorgeous machine! My mom has a Singer Featherweight from the early 50s that was my grandmother's and I covet it.
Love the beautiful pattern, too. I agree with Susan. Substitute a skirt pattern you love to get the look you want.
That looks insanely similar to my mom's machine, which was her mother's…. which is what I learned to sew on, and what my mom still sews on. 🙂
