Hi! I’ve been enjoying Sew Retro immensely for quite sometime now, over a year at least. I have a large collection of vintage patterns from the 1940’s to the 1970’s. I have sewn two vintage items so far, a 1940’s dress and a 1974 dress. I’ll post some pictures of them later. I did a little bit of sewing in high school. Then I didn’t sew at all after that until around eight years ago. I started taking my sewing a little more seriously about four years ago when I went and took private lessons. Before the lessons, I shyed away from anything with buttons, zippers, collars, etc. I’m still a little hesitant with those things only because I don’t have a lot of time to sew, but at least I will attempt them. I’m hoping to carve out more time for sewing. I home school my children. I have one in college and four left at home, ages 1, 6, 8 and 15; so you can imagine how busy that keeps me. I’m also starting to teach my 8-year-old daughter how to hand sew, and then we’ll move on to the machine. I don’t sew just vintage garments; but when I do, I’ll be sure to post them here. I just created a blog today. It’s my first blog. I plan to post pictures of things that my children and I sew as well as sewing tips and tricks that I learn along the way, and my favorite sewing books. www.sewingwithtrudy.blogspot.com

Trudy;
You are getting your 8 year old started at the perfect age! That is when I started to sew. You might consider enrolling her in 4-H in a couple of years. I really honed my skills in 4-H and loved all the sewing competitions and entering my favorite creations every year in the fair. One year I even had an entry in the State Fair. It really was great fun!
