Prom question

January 22, 2009

We are having our annual rockabilly/50s prom at the end of March here in KC. For my dress I was wanted to do something similar to this:

My question is how do you put permanent pleats in tulle/ nylon net?

Thanks!

  1. I don’t have the answer to your question, but that is the most beautiful dress I have ever seen! I can’t wait to see your finished result. Good luck! And have fun! 🙂

  2. I also don’t have the answer to that one, but when you find out. Please post every detail as this is the most gorgeous dress ever!

  3. I have ironed cellophane for clear origami ornaments without any problems. I think a really low iron with a pressing cloth would work just fine. If you call a local high end fabric store they should be able to verify my advice, hopefully.

  4. Yes, a drycleaners (laundry service) will permanently press it for you. You might have to ring round a few places to find one though.

  5. A cheap way to make the look of a pleat in tulle might be to pintuck and press 1/8″ or 1/4″ tucks, however far apart you want to make it look right. Or, you could use a pintuck foot to make small tucks with a double needle.
