I’ve had this pattern for several years and always liked it’s childish looks. Now that I work in the children’s department of a library and the most perfect fabric came into my life, I had to make it.
After I got ‘help’ from my bad kitty
This is how it turned out:
I think it’s cute! One thing I didn’t realize about the pattern until after I had already cut it out is that the back is lapped, and therefore flaps open when I walk. 😮 I guess that’s why panties were included in the pattern! My fix was to wear another skirt I made last year under it. At some point in the future I’ll probably sew up the back seam, but for now, especially in chilly weather, the added layer is okay.
Here’s a closeup of the adorable fabric, sent to me from a friend living in Japan:
Another very cute dress! I remember that pattern! The pockets are cute also!
Very cute!
I’m a children’s entertainer and I’m going to so totally steal that design for costuming!
Such a cute dress. Awww, my dog does the same thing as your cat. There’s something pets like about laying on fabric.
This is so adorable and looks smashing on you! I think the underskirt is perfect. This is a great pattern. I like alot of the Marlo patterns. They must have been a very popular line for McCall’s in the 70s. I am happy for you that you can wear neat items like this to work. So much better than an up-tight office!
My cat thinks she is a pattern paper weight too. She will also climb into a bag (which she hate doing at any cost) to sit on fabric.
That dress is fantastic! I love the fabric, and that pattern is definitely going on my must-make list.
How cute! Is that miffy?
Cuterama!
I think it looks great with the skirt under it.
I’m slightly scared of the pattern illustration ladies’ rictus grins though… (and not surprised they couldn’t get a real model for the crazy short one- particularly with the flappy back issue!!)
Abby – definitely *not* Miffy on the fabric!
The dress looks so good, I can just see you in the library in that 🙂
Thanks, everyone! I’ve had a chance to wear the dress several times now and I love it!
That is cute! And what a great excuse to actually use that fabric. I bet the kids love it!
