Vintage Sewing

Vintage Pattern Love

August 2, 2007

I am surprised no one has mentioned this already.

The latest issue of Threads is all about sewing vintage patterns and fashion designs. By following that link you will also be able to read some online extras from the issue. It’s a great issue.

One of the treats in the issue is that it takes you step-by-step through the construction of this great jacket* once worn by Katherine Hepburn in the movie, “Christopher Strong.”

  1. Just received this pattern today & can’t wait to make it! It’s so fabulous I bet “coats” would have won out over “dresses” had this been posted earlier 🙂

  2. Hi,
I picked up the magazine when a customer of mine let me know that my website was listed in a story about vintage clothing. There were some good stories in this issue about patterns, refashioning vintage, vintage styles aprons etc. My favorite was where they took 3 1940s gowns and put them on a mannequin inside-out, describing the sewing details and draping. That was very interesting because I love looking at the construction of vintage clothing.

  3. I just bought the magazine and it’s got some great stuff in it!

    Thanks for the recommendation

  4. I bought this online direct from the Threads website and it arrived amazingly quickly (I’m in the U.K.). I agree it’s fantastic. There are lots of tips for beginners (like me) and lots for folks with more advanced skills. It’s really inspiring, I’ve read it cover-to-cover about 5 times already.
